Leeds leisure and retail destination rebrands for Tour de France

The Light La Lumiere

In celebration of the greatest cycling race in the world coming to Yorkshire, a leisure and retail destination in Leeds has rebranded itself just for the occasion.

The Light has become ‘La Lumière’, and is to host a six-week programme of cycling events throughout June and early July to count down the coming of the Tour de France.

Brian Oakley, Centre Manager at La Lumière, said: “There’s no doubt that everyone in Leeds is getting very excited for July, and we wanted to do something special to celebrate and honour this huge event.

“La Lumière has a definite ring to it, so we’re proud to be making it our new name.”

La Lumière’s programme will involve free bike maintenance workshops, a prize draw to win a Boardman bike and pedal-powered smoothie bikes that people will be able to cycle.

The opening three stages of the Tour de France in the UK is expected to bring in more than £100 million to the economy while also being watched by billions across the globe.

The start of the Tour de France in Leeds will be preceded two hours earlier by a procession of approximately 180 vehicles giving out a range of memorabilia and publicity material to the crowds at the roadside along the stage.

The route through Leeds is expected to include spectator hubs at Scott Hall Playing Fields, the Harewood Estate and Otley where people can watch the event live as it happens.
