A story of success for contemporary design businesses

Jacky Al-Samarraie The Art Rooms

Jacky Al-Samarraie is paving the way for contemporary design businesses in the region

A Bradford-based greeting card and homeware designer has grown from creating simple wedding stationery to supplying her beautiful designs to big-name brands such as John Lewis and even The House of Lords.

In addition to selling products online, The Art Rooms has started 2014 as new trade suppliers to the National Trust and the Woodland Trust as well as continuing growing relationships with John Lewis and online gift retailer,

It’s owner, Jacky Al-Samarraie, founded the business in 2007 and moved up the success ladder, even winning a prestigious ‘Henry’ award in 2011 for ‘The Best Art Range’ at ‘The Henries’, which is the greeting card industry’s equivalent of The Oscars.

Last year in 2013, she employed a staff member and also moved from Baildon Mill to the historic landmark Salts Mill in Saltaire to accommodate the growth of the business.

She has been utilising the internet for her business, and it paid off as sales doubled in 2013.

Ms Al-Samarraie said: “My product range has developed from greeting cards and now includes prints and other stationery, bone china mugs, tableware and interiors products.

“We are gaining a reputation for providing an excellent service to customers and producing beautiful quality products that I can proudly say, are Made in Britain.”

Ms Al-Samarraie gained valuable support from Rising Stars, which is a Bradford-based enterprise programme set up to support and mentor entrepreneurs and high-growth businesses in the Bradford District.

Rising Stars Business Services Manager, Carolyn Coleman, commented on the partnership with The Art Rooms saying: “It is fantastic to see the company getting the recognition and support from national retailers.”
