Thousands flocked to Bradford’s City Park to watch the Christmas lights being switched on in an enchanting fashion.

The Christmas Lights Spectacular event held yesterday began with carols sung by pupils from Our Lady And St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School in Bradford and Priestthorpe Primary School in Bingley.

At 5.30pm, an aerial show was performed by internationally celebrated Belgian-Dutch theatre group, Theater Tol.

‘Angels’ dressed in bright costumes pedalled into City Park on giant tricycles before being hoisted over 100ft in the air.

Performing Pedaleando Hacia El Cielo (‘Pedalling Towards Heaven’), acrobats sung an atmospheric soundtrack while suspended below an illuminating mobile.

Colourful lighting, fireworks and balloons with additional visual drama ended with a sparkling finale high above the crowd below.

Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Mike Gibbons, led the countdown before the Christmas lights were switched on.

Fireworks were set off from the roof of Centenary Square buildings and from between City Hall and the Magistrates’ Court.

More photographs were taken by our photographer/reporter. They will be available to view and buy here.

Amazing event, also attended the one in Leeds but this one even though it was short had more appeal and not just someone singing which can be boring if you’re not a fan
