Huddersfield’s Christmas Lights Switch On 2014 schedule revealed

The festive season officially begins in Huddersfield on 15 November with the Christmas Lights Switch On.

Taking place on the Piazza from 4.30pm, the Christmas lights will be switched on by CBeebies’ favourite Dr Ranj.

Other special guests include Huddersfield’s very own Town Crier Vic Watson and Huddersfield Town’s popular mascot Terry the Terrier.

Entertainers, singers and dancers will also be performing from 5pm, including the HD Hoopers, Piazza People Talent contest winners, and students from Kirklees College.

Cabinet Member, Cllr Jean Calvert, said: “Last year’s switch on was a huge success, drawing more people than ever into the town centre. This year will be even better.

“We have an impressive line-up of special guests and entertainers this year – there’s something for everyone. The warm atmosphere and entertainment from local talent will remind everyone why Kirklees is such a great place to live.”

The schedule:

4.30 – Pulse 1 Roadshow starts live on stage
4.35 – The Mayor, Cllr Ken Smith and Mayoress, Cllr Christine Smith, open the event
4.40 – The HD Hoopers perform powerhooping
4.50 – Vic Watson, the Town Crier, hosts the Town Crier Game with prizes to be won
5.00 – Rev Wayne Clarke shares his Christmas Message
5.05 – Shawny Dee, Piazza People Talent Contest Winner 2012, sings two songs
5.15 – Sophie Williamson, Piazza People Talent Contest Winner 2013, sings and plays instruments
5.25 – A Christmas Wrapping Game is played with Terry The Terrier from Huddersfield Town
5.35 – Kirklees College singers and dancers perform with street dance and an Ed Sheeran song
5.45 – Tom Gee Band perform
6.00 – Dr Ranj from CBeebies entertains the crowd
6.23 – ‘Daredevil’ Santa surprises the crowd
6.27 – The 60 second countdown
6.29 – 30 second countdown
6.30 – Christmas lights are turned on
