X Factor finalist Sam Callahan heading to Keighley for Christmas

Sam CallahanX Factor finalist Sam Callahan is heading to Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre to switch on the Christmas lights.

Thousands of ‘Callafans’ are expected to see the former barman turned singer-songwriter join Santa light up the town on 23 November.

Sam, 20, said: “I’ve never done a big switch on like this, so I’m really looking forward to it, and seeing all my fans. For me that’s one of the best parts, getting to meet people who support me.”

Essex-born Sam, who started performing when he was eight, attended Theatre School and performed in bands before opting to go solo.

He stormed his way into the X Factor finals last year, and was voted out after he faced a sing-off against fellow finalist Luke Friend.

Sam is to release a new single next year and will heading to America to work with Bon Jovi’s producer Luke Ebbin.

He said: “X Factor was a great experience but I’m now able to do more of my own style, which is rock. People will finally get chance to hear the real me.”

The day-long event, sponsored by the Airedale Shopping Centre, will see a hunt for Keighley’s Champion Christmas Elf from 10am.

Local choirs will also perform festive favourites and carols, plus other activities such as balloon-modelling sessions.

Sam will be switching on the Christmas lights at Airedale Shopping Centre on 23 November.
