Bradford’s Forster Community College (FCC) has been awarded a Grade 2 rating against Ofsted’s rigorous new Common Inspection Framework.

Improving on its previous inspection result, the College gained a positive result as a team of inspectors observed classes, spoke to learners, staff, and robustly tested all aspects of policies.

The lead inspector commended on the improvement, and said: “In view of the College’s significant budget reduction in the recent years, very effective management of change supported by dedicated staff has ensured that the College meets its mission.

“Since the last inspection, the College has focused well to improve the quality of the provision and the vast majority of learners succeed well.”

The report stated that learners overcame their barriers to progression and developed good personal, social and employability skills.

Teaching, training and assessments were also commended for ensuring that the majority of learners were able to complete qualifications.

Sheila Philpott, CEO at the College, said: “Inspectors recognised our supportive ethos for working with learners, almost all of whom are at high risk of social and economic exclusion and have multiple substantial barriers to participate in learning.

“Our commitment to working together to improve their personal, social and employability skills significantly is a key driver for the College.”

The College – which was first established 32 years ago – has had changes to funding in the past, but managed to raise funds from sponsorship and collaborations with partner organisations.

It also introduced its own Bistro & Deli in 2012.
