The incident took place at the Dewsbury railway station at around 2pm on Saturday.

Rail services were halted and diverted while emergency services and Network Rail officials were called to the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesperson confirmed: “Our officers were called to Dewsbury railway station at 1.58pm on Saturday, January 10, after receiving reports that a man had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and West Yorkshire Police also attended but sadly the man, who has been identified as 20-year-old and from the Batley area, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s family have been informed.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident comes less than two weeks after a 78-year-old man was found dead on the tracks close to the same station.
