In just one night, Bradford has raised £520,000 in cash and pledges to help rebuild war-torn Gaza.

Organised by the Human Appeal International charity, an event was held yesterday as part of the annual Sounds Of Light tour, which is visiting 11 cities across the UK to raise money.

The event was presented by Na’eem Raza, and featured stand-up comedy from the founder of the “Allah Made Me Funny” tour, Preacher Moss.

Islamic devotional songs, also known as nasheeds, were sung by Ahmad Hussain, Mesut Kurtis, and award-winning singer-songwriter Maher Zain, who is considered as one of the biggest stars in modern Islamic music.

By the end of the night, Bradford came ahead of Nottingham, Bristol, Slough and Manchester by raising the highest amount of £520,000.

Local volunteers Ridwana Wallace-Laher and Sharaz Rehman, helped organise the night in Bradford and led Human Appeal volunteers.

Sharaz said: “Three weeks ago I never thought we would sell this venue out. But the volunteers put a lot of effort into making this night happen including Human Appeal and everyone in the audience.”

Ridwana added: “The volunteers I cannot fault, they were brilliant as usual and never let us down.”
