Fire crews called in to tackle fire in Dewsbury town centre

Firefighters were called in earlier today after a blaze engulfed a property in Dewsbury town centre.

The incident took place at the former Tapps pub on Bradford Road after 4pm, when flames were seen emerging out of the windows of the building in Northgate.

A crowd of onlookers watched from below as firefighters tackled the blaze.

Traffic was diverted as black smoke issued out of the property.

It was reported from eye-witnesses that around four firefighters went inside the burning building while hoses tried putting out the fire from outside.

No-one was injured and the fire was put out before 7pm.

The incident is not thought to be suspicious, as of yet.
