At about 8pm on 23 March, three masked males armed with knives entered the Vesper Convenience Store in Vesper Road, Hawksworth.

They threatened the female member of staff and forced their way behind the counter before stealing cash from the till and a quantity of cigarettes, included Mayfair, Players, Carlton, Marlboro and Regal brands.

One of the suspects ran off down Vesper Road towards Cragside Mount and the other two ran down Woodhall Drive towards Abbey Road.

The CCTV images show one of the robbers wearing a ‘Guy Fawkes’ mask, as popularised by the novel V for Vendetta. It is also associated with hacktivist collective Anonymous.

The other image shows another wearing a distinctive baseball cap with a large peak with blue, white and black stripes on it.

Appeal for information

All three offenders were believed to be aged under 18.

Detective Constable Phil Maher, of Leeds District CID, said: “The mask and the baseball cap are fairly distinctive items and we would like to hear from anyone who thinks they know who the offenders might be.

“We are also asking for anyone has been offered these brands of cigarettes for sale in suspicious circumstances to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101 or call the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
