Mother-of-two Donna Meehan, who heard the loud bang outside, said: “The man was very drunk, climbed out of window and ran off up the hill.

“Two taxis stopped after the man ran. One of them got a torch and gave the car a good check looking for people so my heart went out to him.

“When the police came, they sat in an unmarked car and the man came walking down swaying all over and walked past when he was arrested.”

A spokesperson from West Yorkshire Police said: “We were called last night at 23:26 to reports of a grey, Audi A4 on its roof at Wibsey Bank. A man was arrested at the scene.”
