The man who attacked Bradford West MP George Galloway in London has been jailed for 16 months.

Neil Masterson, 39, left the pro-Palestine MP with cuts and bruises to his head and body after an assault in Notting Hill in August.

The attack left the MP requiring hospital treatment.

Masterson, who was wearing a pink t-shirt with an Israeli Defence Force logo when he was arrested nearby, told police he felt “morally justified” in attacking the MP because he was a “Nazi” with a “shameful” attitude towards Jews, Isleworth Crown Court heard.

Neil Masterson showed support to the Israeli Defence Force.

Masterson, of Kensington, who used to work for the Department of Work and Pensions and as a manager at the BBC, had previously admitted to assaulting Mr Galloway.

He also admitted to a second charge of common assault against a man who had been posing for a picture with Mr Galloway.

Judge Aidan Marron QC told Masterson: “While you are no longer facing a charge of religiously aggravated assault, it would be unreal to ignore that the motivation for this… was your profound hostility to Mr Galloway’s views.”

Mr Galloway is well-known for his strong stance against Israel.

In early August, he declared Bradford as an “Israel-free zone”. He was investigated over the statements but faced no charges.

  1. Mohammod Islam says:

If a Muslim attacked a MP would he only get 16 months sentence?

I don’t think so also Parliament would have been continuously on this topic.

Parliamentarians are not fit for serving public as they can not support a fellow MP.

    Shame on them
