Memorial to take place for 15-year-old car crash victim Saliq Malik

Saliq Malik Bradford

An event is to take place in City Park in memory of 15-year-old Saliq Malik who died in a car crash in Bradford.

On 12 September, schoolboy Saliq was a passenger in a Volkswagen Golf which crashed into a wall and a lamp post in Gilpin Street, Barkerend.

He suffered serious head injuries and died in hospital later on the same day.

Saliq’s father, Amjad Malik, said: “I don’t want people going through what I’ve been through. A young life was lost, and many lives have recently been lost by careless driving in Bradford, Batley, Doncaster and Rotherham.

“We want to get the awareness out as too many lads have lost their lives and we don’t want parents going through this situation. Cars are not toys.”

The memorial will include speeches from Imam Muhammad Asim Hussain, Mowlana Muhammad Harun Subhani, Arfan Naseer of the Con-Sequence enterprise and the world’s first Asian female football agent Shehneela Ahmed.

There will also be a lighting of candles.

The memorial will take in Bradford’s City Park on 14 December and will start from 4pm.
