Woman in Holmfirth hid in the woods after kidnapper punched her in face

Fulstone Hall Lane

Police are appealing for information following the attempted abduction of a 28-year-old woman walking on Fulstone Hall Lane, Holmfirth.

Around 4.45pm last night, a man driving what is believed to have been a white Audi A3 vehicle stopped and asked if the victim wanted a lift.

She declined and the suspect drove off the same direction.

Around a third of a mile down the road, the victim saw the same vehicle parked up ahead, near to a farm gate and alongside wooded areas on both sides of the road.

The man inside opened the door and asked the victim if she wanted a lift again, saying that she ‘shouldn’t be walking alone’.

When the victim declined again, the suspect grabbed her hand and during a struggle the victim was punched to the face, before she managed to strike the suspect and escape by running into the woods.

She then hid there until she was sure the suspect had left the area.

The suspect, who spoke with a heavy Yorkshire accent, is described as a white male with a medium build, 6ft tall and in his 30s to mid 40s.

He had black wavy hair about 3 inches long and was also thought to have bushy eyebrows, facial stubble and was wearing a thick, green coloured, knitted jumper and dark blue jeans.

Detective Inspector Stephanie Wiseman, from Kirklees CID, said: “At this time we are continuing to support the victim, who has suffered bruising to her face and is understandably shocked and upset by what has taken place. A forensic examination of the scene is ongoing today and additional patrols have been deployed in the area as house to house enquires are being carried out.

“Fortunately crimes of this type are very rare, particularly in the local area, and that makes it all the more vital to identify this man and bring him before the courts.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Huddersfield CID on 101 and quoting reference number 13140436820.
