Fairbank slay the Dragons!

Fairbank Utd

Fairbank United’s Under 15’s have cruised into the final of the Bradford FA Junior Cup, defeating the Thackley Dragons.

In a thrilling start to the game the Dragons went close within the opening seconds, blazing over the bar from close range.

United’s captain Hussain Iqbal settled Fairbank nerves, by latching onto a throughball from Zaakir Javed before smashing home in the second minute.

Hussain was in the thick of the action again 10 minutes later. Having jinked past his man effortlessly he was up-ended in the box, allowing Hanzalah Azam to step up and slot home a well-taken penalty.

The game was essentially wrapped up at half time as Hussain added three more to his tally, giving his team a five-goal advantage at the break.

The Dragons, who had scored 30 goals in their last two fixtures, were visibly shell-shocked. Hussain added a fifth to his tally, before a jinking run from Muaaz Khan saw him lash the seventh.

Thackley rallied towards the end of the game, scoring two well consolation goals but the Fairbank victory was emphatic as they ran out 7:2 winners on the day.

In the second semi final, the Thackley Warriors cantered to a comprehensive 7:0 win securing the second berth in the cup final, defeating Bradford Park Avenue Juniors.

The cup final will take place on 28 April at 7pm at Fields FC, Hollingwood Lane in Bradford.
