Weekly tennis sessions held in the Bingley area of Bradford have been a great success.

Run by the Vamos Tennis Academy, participants are learning and developing their skills in tennis delivered on four outdoor tennis courts at the Zara Sports Centre.

Head coach Gul Rashid, who has played tennis for over 20 years, said: “I used to work at a tennis club near the Zara Sport Centre, and knew the centre was a brilliant venue.

“So I thought it would be a great idea to give it a shot and introduce tennis to everyone, including BME communities who want to play.”

With help from Sporting Equals and West Yorkshire Sport, Mr Rashid saw the number of participant’s increase overtime, as well as more people from BME communities taking part.

Mr Rashid now coaches juniors from different age groups and adults on a weekly basis, and sessions have become increasingly popular.

He said: “Tennis can be an expensive sport, so I really wanted to make it affordable as tennis is a brilliant sport and I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s excellent for exercise and it’s very social.”

Mr Rashid has been coaching since 2006, starting as a Tennis Assistant and working his way up to the LTA Development Coach Award (DCA).

He completed his USPTR Associate Instructor qualification and is also a member of Registro Profesional de Tennis (RPT).
