It’s a trap! Comic book store to open in Bradford city centre
Comic book fans may want to put time aside during the Tour de France weekend as a shop named It’s A Trap opens in the heart of Bradford.
The first of its kind on Bradford’s busy Market Street, the shop will stock an array of comics including Marvel and DC, graphic novels, an array of action figures and fan merchandise.
Bradford-born Beth Whitaker, who is the owner, found it difficult finding independent shops that catered to specialist tastes five years ago, particularly comic book stores.
She told the Yorkshire Standard: “I didn’t have access to such shops until I went to Leeds with friends, and I felt Bradford needed more independent shops like this.
“Whilst made redundant I thought this was the perfect time to set something up. I didn’t have easy access to such shops, so it’ll be nice for others to do so now.”
The shop hopes to provide a platform for local artists, clothes designers and board game producers to feature their work. There are also future plans to add board game tables in the room upstairs.
Ms Whitaker, who received funding from Bradford’s Chamber of Commerce, added: “I want to help add to this city, and make It’s A Trap as community-orientated as possible.
“People have been so supportive, and family and friends have been amazing.”
It’s A Trap will be opening on 5 July at 11am. There will be cake and live music from local singer/songwriters Darren James Ellis and Sam Rothery.
I had heard there will be a well known comic store opening up in the new Westfield shopping centre in Bradford - Good luck.
The place doesn’t exist!
It does. Near the Wool Exchange behind Waterstones, Opposite Brighthouse.
