Man arrested following bomb scare at Wakefield shopping centre

A man has been arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax following the evacuation of a shopping centre in Wakefield today.

A 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody on suspicion of a bomb hoax.

Police were today called to reports of a suspicious package that had been left at the Barclays Bank branch at the Trinity Shopping Centre in Wakefield.

A cordon was put in place and all nearby shops were evacuated around 12pm.

A bag of food and clothes

CCTV showing a man dropping off a rucksack and a suspect was identified a short time later on a nearby street.

The bag was then examined by a specialist search officer and was found to contain food and clothes.

At 1.31pm the cordon was lifted.
