A short documentary has been released online showing how Jamie Nicholls began snowboarding.
‘Forged In Steel’ documents how Jamie, who grew up in Queensbury, Bradford, became one of the most recognised young snowboarders in the world.
Jamie started snowboarding at the age of seven at the Halifax Ski & Snowboard Centre and took part in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, coming in sixth place in the Snowboard Slopestyle finals.
‘Forged In Steel’ gives an insight into Jamie’s life and visits the places of his childhood, the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead, the CiarnGorm Mountain in Scotland and the Austrian Alps.
Jamie said: “With the time-frame we had of just around a week and our budget, it was difficult but it was definitely good fun. I wanted to make the people who didn’t know who I was to get a background of myself and how supportive my family were.”
Jamie released a separate clip featured in the documentary onto his Facebook page and it went viral, reaching two million views and getting over 10,000 shares.
In a run never done before, Jamie is seen snowboarding inside and outside the Snow Centre doing high jumps and rail grinds.
Jamie said: “Two parts are my favourite. One is in Halifax as it brought back a lot of memories, and the Snow Centre in London, which was something that I had never done before.”
