A petition launched by Shannon Riddle on Care2 is calling on the president to make animal tattooing illegal throughout the world, starting with the United States.
It reads: “Animal tattooing is wrong and should be illegal in all states and countries!”.
The petition has already achieved a milestone of 135,000 signatures.
Those who have already signed the petition include people from the UK, the Philippines, Norway and Argentina.
“It speaks volumes”
Karen Nash from the UK, who signed the petition, wrote: “Shame on those who condone and/or participate in the discrimination, persecution, exploitation, abuse, suffering, slavery, torture and murder of animals and shame on those in government and authority for letting them get away with it.
“It speaks volumes about those in government and their mentality when they allow the abuse of animals… It is high time governments and those in authority worldwide legislated to protect the welfare of ALL animals.”
New York already has a ban on animal tattooing.
Violators of the law, which applies to dogs, cats and all other pets, face up to $250 in fines and up to 15 days imprisonment.
