Artists from across the UK are bringing over the British coastline all the way to Brighouse.

Over 50 original paintings and prints are now on display at the Harrison Lord Gallery as part of a new exhibition named ‘Coastal’.

The central theme is the Yorkshire coast but the Welsh and Scottish coastline also feature with paintings of Scottish harbour scenes and North Wales resorts.

Headlining the show is work by gallery favourite, Leeds-based artist Mark Sofilas. Originally from Australia, Mr Sofilas sees the Yorkshire coast through new eyes with paintings full of colour.

Other artists include Sheila Venamore from Harrogate, whose harbour scenes are a hit with collectors, and Stephen Todd from Sheffield who references the history of the coast whilst painting in a semi-abstract style.

The exhibition also features work from artists such as Rachel Grant, Val Jordon, Barbara Renton-Wood, Ken Hammond and Bridget Wilkinson.

Owner of the Harrison Lord Gallery, Steven Harrison, said: “I commissioned a group of our top artists to produce work on the theme of our wonderful coast and as ever they’ve come up trumps with a wonderful mix of exciting work.

“As an island race I think we all have some connection with the coast, whether it’s a day trip to Filey or messing around in boats and this exhibition captures all that emotion, it’s bound to bring back happy memories and put a smile on your face.”

The Harrison Lord Gallery, located on Bradford Road, is free to enter and the ‘Coastal’ exhibition runs until 28 August.
